Comment Policy

All comments will be held for “moderation”. Moderation means that I will have to approve any comment being submitted (even my own) before they appear on the site. This is first and foremost an attempt to combat comment spam by throttling it, but that doesn’t mean that you can write anything abusive here.

The rules are…

  1. I reserve the right to edit, remove or refuse any comment at my discretion, and to block anyone from posting for breaking those rules (repeatedly or not) or for other reasons.
  2. Any edits to approved comments that do not simply consist in grammar, spelling or formatting corrections that don’t change the underlying meaning of the comment will be clearly marked as such.
  3. No one person has an innate right to get their comment published here.

By submitting a comment you agree to comply with these terms and to respect my decision, which is final.

Moral compass

If you follow those rules, your comment should be fine.

  • Logic: your comment should be logically coherent. If it tries to make an argument, it should be backed up logically.
  • Expletives: your comment can use expletives for emphasis and such. I’m not a prude. You do not need to type “f**k”. (In fact, I’ll almost certainly edit that into “fuck”. If you find that awful, avoid using “f**k” in the first place.)
  • Abuse: being abusive towards others is never tolerated and will more often than not be grounds for complete refusal instead of editing.
  • Opposite position: a corollary to “Logic” above: your comment doesn’t need to take my opinion or stance. I will assume that if you do anything more advanced than agree either with me, another comment or another source (to which you will produce a link), you will supply logic reasoning supporting your stance.
  • Language: your comment should be written in English (any variant). I don’t care if your skills in English only allow “broken English”, but it’s the only language that I understand that’s of value to other readers of the comments. (Heavy use of Leetspeak or deliberately degraded English (like using “b4″ for “before” or “u” for “you”) is explicitly punishable by a ban and refusal of the triggering comment.)
  • Volume and substance: in cases of high levels of comments where most don’t add to the conversation, simple “I agree” type comments may be de-prioritized or refused.
