Forecasting the First

  • 128 GB iPod touch.
  • Goodbye, iPod classic. (See above.)
  • Wi-Fi syncing.
  • Nice knowing you, iPod shuffle.

  1. A fifth, even more radical guess is that the iPod touch is renamed, possibly to just “iPod”, although I can see how that could get confusing. The idea is that even if not all the other non-nano iPods disappear per the above, it won’t remain the sole “touch” iPod. The new square iPod nano will also have touch, and the name will be a bogus differentiator.

  2. As a corollary to WiFi syncing, it would be nice if my devices didn’t lock me out of using them while syncing is occurring.

  3. It’d be nice if my vehicle was still operable while rotating the tires.

  4. That was just me being snotty, by the way. Each app should perhaps lock the user out, saying “you can’t use me right now, I’m syncing over new [music/photos/videos/books]“; there are few stages that benefit from disabling everything, never mind the entire sync. However, it used to be that the first thing Apple did sync for (iPods) was like this. I think it’s just a force of habit that they have yet to break.
