Let me explain the inconclusive result: I am willing to declare the bigger-screen multi-touch interface the best interface I’ve seen, and I was as snowed in as everyone else about what it’d turn out like. It’s like an iPhone Pro interface and convinces at least me that touch-based apps may have a future in full application development. But it wasn’t the defining characteristic of the announcement, the unseen angle that I was hoping for, and it wasn’t a huge surprise per se that a 10″ post-iPhone slate from Apple would provide a multi-touch interface.

For most cases, iPhone OS 3.2 (the iPad version) solves the case of sharing files across applications without needing to provide a file browser or access to the full file system. I’m generally opposed to this sort of approach for religious reasons (I should be able to mess around with any file I’d like), but I will say that the approach is genuinely well designed and solves the problem without dragging a lot of history behind it.
