Let’s try this.
On November 9th, Robbie Williams’ album Reality Killed the Video Star will be released. I’ve pre-ordered it, which means that I’ve paid for it, which means that if it were to become available elsewhere, somehow, then I’d have no qualms about actually downloading it.
Even so, a reasonable person could today go to iTunes and actually preview a decent clip of the songs ahead of release (although this doesn’t work on the iPhone/iPod touch iTunes app). Therefore, I’m going to be reviewing the tracks one by one, counting down to November 9th; starting with the opening single and going in album order.
Bodies (4:05)
The perfect track to make a comeback with. Sounds intense in the same way as Rock DJ (Sing When You’re Winning) and Let Me Entertain You (I’ve Been Expecting You/The Ego Has Landed (US)) or why not Tripping (Intensive Care), although with a less, more and less melodic bassline, respectively. Familiar (by which I mean non-Rudebox) and a bit different at the same time. Contains more explicit religious references than maybe any other RW song, with the possible exception of the odd Jesus in a Camper Van (I’ve Been Expecting You). The lyrics are… interesting overall — if you sang the lyrics out loud on the subway and no one knew about the song (or maybe even if they did), you’d probably be the recipient of some stares and/or handcuffs in short order.
The music video is on YouTube, and I think its sole purpose is to make him look like Roger Moore in a “lost tape” Bond movie.
