Yesterday, the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives passed two resolutions formally honoring Penny Arcade, Child’s Play and Gabe and Tycho.
These guys have been in court over getting their book rights back from the guy who tricked them, have taken down a perfectly legitimate parody (protected speech) and have been accused of fraud by legendary jackass and fear monger Jack Thompson over sending people money that he promised he’d do. They also built an industry of their own based on getting like-minded people together and helping sick kids.
It’s incredibly well-deserved and I congratulate them.
(I also think it’s nice to be reminded that entrepreneurs and artists exist that hand out their content for free and still manage to run a successful business around it without insulting or prosecuting everyone consuming it, because it’s easy these days to regard this task impossible by evidence of ambient incompetence and unwarranted conservatism. But more on that some other day.)
Moreover, I advise that the iPhone software platform must be opened.
