The “The Simpsons Movie” Review

★★★★½

emacs, rms, wtf

Richard M. Stallman takes Human Reactions 101 and fails badly. (Via Hosey.)

If it was a joke, he didn’t make himself clear, but there’s no indication it is a joke. There are more than practical reasons to distance yourself from the militia-end of openly available software.

Mac-like

Building up to the release of the next version of ThisService, I’ve paid attention to polish.

One of the things I’ve spent some time into is making sure you can command-click the file shown in the file picker to see its full path. You could always drag the file icon as a proxy icon, but with the menu, the file picker now has a fully featured proxy icon. I consider this the epitome of “Mac-like”-ness.

I’m also working on a help book; the Apple Help system and especially Help Viewer frightens small children and instills fear even in military divisions and large concentrations of livestock. This is written as a text file, and run through a very small shellRuby script in order to produce the complete help book, including producing the help index and staging it in Help Viewer or Safari.

It does not brew coffee. (I don’t drink coffee.)

This is different from thindoc, but like thindoc I’m planning to release it, along with adjusted templates based on Andy’s Help Toolkit.

Occasionally, I also work on the products themselves. But that’s no fun. :)

Milestone

With the Mac mini upgraded to Core 2 Duo, all currently shipping Macs have 64-bit processors.
