My dream iPod

Just in time for the curtains

  • Slightly smaller than a full-size iPod but significantly thinner. The approximate deck-of-cards form factor is nice. It fits in your hand without you feeling like you’re gonna crush it.

  • White trademark iPod plastic front, but iPod mini/PowerBook/PowerMac G5-ish aluminum back. I’m tired of the fingerprints.

  • Video is a must. Therefore video capabilities, a slightly bigger screen and a higher resolution screen! Improving pixel pitch did wonders for Palms.

  • Bluetooth! No, not for the headphones. We’ll see why in a minute.

  • Syncing. Like now, upload your contacts and tasks, but also lazily sync back play counts, star ratings and On-The-Go playlists via Bluetooth when in range.

  • Wireless music playback. $49 buys a small one-way Toslink cable with a small transceiver on the other end. The iPod beams the data directly to the stereo. Can also be plugged into the AirPort Express for streaming of its own or remote controlling of an existing AirTunes stream.

  1. That last idea is awesome. Turn the iPod into a remote for an express…wow…that would rock my world.
